Rhinoplasty is one of the most common procedure performed by plastic surgeons. The procedure involves surgical intervention on the nose to change its appearance or to improve breathing, or both. Most often, our patients complain of a “hump” on the dorm of the nose, a nose that is larger than they would like, or aesthetic issues with the tip of the nose. Sometimes parts of the nose can be crooked, such as the septum, and correcting this can significantly improve breathing through the nose.

Am I a candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Most healthy people who have issues with their nose will be candidates for rhinoplasty. If you have difficulty breathing through the nose, or have a history of nasal injury improvements in appearance can be made at the same time as improvements in breathing.

How is the surgery done?

In general, the incision for rhinoplasty is very inconspicuous. There is a small incision made between the nostrils and the rest of the incision is hidden inside the nostrils. The nasal cartilage is exposed and reshaped, sometimes the nasal bones are altered, and if the septum is deviated it can be straightened.

What is recovery like?

During your rhinoplasty recovery, you will wear a nasal “splint” for one week after surgery. Sometimes there can be a little bit of brusing under the eyes for the first week. Pain is usually very manageable. No nose-blowing for a few weeks after surgery. As swelling in the nose subsides the cosmetic improvements continue to improve with time.

Rhinoplasty FAQS

How long do Rhinoplasty results last?

Rhinoplasty results are generally life-long. Patients are often very happy with the results at the first “reveal” when the splint is removed 1 week after surgery, but the appearance of the nose usually continues to subtly improve over the coming months.

What is the most common reason for Rhinoplasty?

Most of the time patients are unhappy with a dorsal hump, or a convexity to the nasal dorsum and want this made more flat. Patients also often complain of a tip that is too large or shaped in an undesirable way. Other than aesthetic concerns we also see many patients who have broken their noses in the past and have deviated septum how want this repaired to improve their breathing.
