Neck Lift
A neck lift is a procedure that is closely related to the facelift. Incisions behind the ear and/or under the chin can be used to re-drape sagging skin of the neck, and to treat platysmas bands that are sometime seen as a hallmark-sign of the aging face and neck. For those who do not need, or desire a full facelift, neck lift can be a tremendously rewarding procedure.
Am I a candidate for a Necklift?
Patients with sagging skin of the neck, and platysmas bands are usually candidates. The best candidates will be in good health, non-smokers, and be of a healthy weight. Consultation with Dr. Moores can help to determine if this treatment is right for you.
How is the surgery done?
In general, the necklift procedure uses incisions behind the ear, and under the chin to directly address sagging skin in the neck, subcutaneous fat, and platysmal bands which are a hallmark sign of the aging neck. Different procedures and combinations are employed depending on what each patient needs/desires.
What is recovery like?
A compressive garment is applied to the neck to limit swelling and bruising, which is expected after surgery. Most bruising will resolve over 1-2 weeks, but the improvement in neck contour can be significant. You will be encouraged to sleep with your head elevated for some time to help with swelling, and pain is controlled with oral medications.
NECKLIFT FAQS
How long do Facelift results last?
Much like the facelift, a necklift will “wind-back the clock” of facial aging. The neck will continue to age of-course after surgery. But the hope is that the neck will age from a new starting point, in this way, the results can be long-lasting. The longevity of the result also depends on the age and health of the patient, skin elasticity, and genetics.
How much younger will I look with a Facelift?
A necklift is intended to improve the appearance of the neck and can be a very powerful treatment modality to rejuvenate ones overall appearance. Often, aging in the neck is an under-appreciated sign of ones overall age and appearance. Though there is no set amount of improvement, and this is not quantifiable anyhow, the improvement, or resolution of platysmal bands in the central neck can be a very satisfying result for patients indeed.
