A facelift is a common procedure for the treatment of facial aging. Facelift surgery involves tightening the skin of the face, jawline, and neck to re-create your own youthful appearance. Incisions are placed in the creases around the ear and tend to heal very well. Through these incisions, wrinkles in the facial skin, jowls, and sagging neck skin can be treated. Where the face has excess fat, it may be removed, and where the face has thinned over time it can be added. Much has been learned in recent years about the manner in which the face ages. We hope to employ the latest research and concepts in facial aging to “wind-back the clock” and bring out the inner, and more youthful you.

Am I a candidate for Facelift?

Patients with jowls, sagging neck skin, sagging facial skin and wrinkles in the lower face are candidates for facelift surgery. The best candidates will be in good health, non-smokers, and be at a healthy weight. An in-office consultation with Dr Moores can help to determine if facelift is right for you.

How is the surgery done?

In general, facelift is accomplished through incisions adjacent to the creases in the ear, and sometimes a small incision is made under the chin. Using these incisions the skin of the face can be re-draped, and the underlying tissues of the face and neck can be subtly altered to revitalize the face. Remember, aging in the face in not just skin deep.

What is recovery like?

Some bruising and swelling after facelift is expected. A compressive chin/neck wrap will be used to help with both. Swelling and bruising should subside within 1-2 weeks but the result will continue to improve to 3-6 months after surgery, when the final result is often most appreciated. However, recovery depends on the extent of the facelift you may need, and smaller interventions may be appropriate for some.

Facelift FAQS

How long do Facelift results last?

A facelift tends to “wind back the clock” of facial aging. After a facelift you should expect to look some years more youthful. After surgery your skin will continue to see effects of aging, but to what extent the clock has been wound-back, you should age from that point going forward. In this way, facelift surgery can create life-long improvement relative to your chronological age even if the result does not stay frozen in time. The longevity of facelift results also is impacted by the patients overall health, the status of the patients skin-health, and genetics.

How much younger will I look with a Facelift?

There is no quantifiable number of years one will look younger, and the face will continue to age after surgery, but the improvements can be significant. In our practice we strife to rejuvenate the face and neck to create natural results over all-else.
