Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular procedures performed by plastic surgeons. Breast augmentation can be achieved by a number of contemporary methods. Most often breast implants are used to increase the size, and to improve the shape of the breasts. Alternatively, fat grafting can be used if a modest increase in size is all that is desired. The best, and most customizable result is achieved with a combination of breast implants, and selective fat grafting. Breast augmentation can also be performed with breast lifts (mastopexy) to improve the shape, and nipple position.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR A BREAST AUGMENTATION?

The best candidates for breast breast augmentation are women who are in good health, non-smokers, and desire an improvement in breast size and/or shape. Silicone, saline, and/or fat grafting techniques can be employed as desired and can be used to tailor the result to your specific goals.

The decision to pursue breast augmentation is a highly personal one. We are happy to discuss the most up to date science on breast implants, fat grafting and what your specific goals are, and how to achieve them at length during an in-office consultation.

HOW IS THE
SURGERY DONE?

Initially at consultation your goals will be discussed along with the most up to date science and research on breast implants and/or fat grafting. A discussion about what size is attainable and what size improvement you desire will be had at length. Wear a thin tee-shirt and a thin non-padded bra to clinic to best facilitate “trying-on” various implant sizes to see which you most desire.

At surgery, a small incision is most often made under the breast fold and breast implants are placed during a procedure that often takes 1-2 hours if only breast implant placement is being performed.

WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE?

Initially after surgery you are placed in a soft, but supportive post-op bra. There is swelling and soreness that often lasts for a week or so after surgery. Over the next few weeks soreness will subside and the implant will relax into their resting position. Implant massage will be taught and begun several days after surgery to encourage the implants to fill the most desirable parts of the breast footprint.

We recommend abstaining from vigorous exercise for 4-6 weeks after surgery, but most women are back to their normal lives for the most-part within 1-2 weeks.

FACELIFT FAQS

WHAT TYPE OF BREAST IMPLANTS DO YOU RECOMMEND?

In contemporary breast augmentation there are a number of methods available to surgeons and patients. Whether you desire silicone implants, saline implants, or fat grafting, Dr Moores is very happy to discuss the pro’s and con’s of each method at length with you. While there have been exciting and significant improvements in breast implant technology in the last decade (highly cohesive gel), there are also exciting advancements in fat grafting and multimodal therapies that are worth discussing.

ARE BREAST IMPLANTS SAFE?

Breast implants are some of the most heavily studied medical devices in FDA history. There are some risks associated with breast implants but these can be discussed at length in clinic. Breast implants are not considered lifetime devices. This means that it is likely that at some point they will either have to be replaced, or that you will want them replaced, or removed. At any juncture, if you decide you no longer desire breast implants, they can be removed.

HOW DO YOU SELECT THE RIGHT SIZE?

During your consult, Dr. Moores will examine you to determine what is attainable for you. This includes an assessment of current size, skin elasticity, nipple position and chest width. It is advisable to wear a thin (non-padded) bra with a thin tee-shirt or blouse to your consultation to facilitate an implant try-on. After discussing your desired goals, a detailed discussion with Dr Moores outlining the available, and recommended methods to achieve them will take place. In our clinic patient safety is paramount, and natural aesthetics are always the goal.
